So last night was our first family fall. Well, not figuratively, as we all fall quite flat on our faces from time to time between meltdowns, bad decisions and not thinking things through...but literally we all bit it on our new tandem bike. A series of bad choices from riding at night to carrying too many things and taking our Snappy dog (who wanted to go one way at the end of her leash while we went the other way) Boom on the street we went. Luckily it was a slow-motion kind of fall and we were fine (pride not included plus spooking out our poor cousins -@jolieherzig - who were riding just fine alongside us) We’ve mentioned a tandem bike is so perfect as a metaphor for relationship and geez did we ever learn that even more after the fall. We both felt so irritated at each other and Gracie was nervous (she has a special seat on the back). We tried to get back on to ride the rest of the way and ...sigh...failed. Nerves and emotions got the best of us. We watched the fireworks more quietly than usual because of those emotions. Walked back home. So what to do now? Get right back on and try again. What else? We’ve talked at length with Gracie and she’s ready to go again. We are planning a ride this afternoon with the two of us first to talk about how to make it all enjoyable again and then Gracie will join us tomorrow. It’s not just relationship but life, right? What do you do when you fall? Get right back at it and try again (and discuss what you did wrong.) life is full of failures, ups, downs, wrongs. Get back to it together...stronger, better, more brave and prepared than before.
